not the usual type of emergeny but

i have just been given a dwarf puffer fish. i know it is fresh water but the only tank it can go in is my community that houses neaons, BN plec, apple snails abd guppys.

Is he ok in here or will i be needing to move him to a 5 gallon or try and give him to my fish shop.

i have been observing him and he seems friendly with the guppies but the neons as usually are chilling out and the BN plec is no where around

Hey

First of all, your dwarf puffer is not a dwarf puffer. I just saw a picture of him, and he's a figure eight. Dwarf puffers would be completely freshwater, figure eights however, are brackish. They also require a lot more room than a 5G, they'll need around 20Gs for themselfs (this because of aggression, territory and upkeep of saltlevels).

He will not be ok with the fish he's in now, or rather, the fish wont be ok being in with him. Same goes for the snails. I seriously recommend seeing if someone else will have him, because what you've got now, is not going to work.

Please look up some information about the figure eight puffer (Tetraodon biocellatus), you'll soon know why you can not keep your community tank and this puffer.

This should also be moved to the brackish section of this forum :)

--Edit--

I'm really sorry if I sound snobby in this post, I'm just very tired don't mean to make anything sound rude :)

ok thank you.

I am gonna stick him in his own small tank and then take him back to the fish shop on monday if they willl have him back if not i wil advertise for a new home for him

cheers for the post

I have set him up in a cloned 5 gallon on his own for over night then tomorrow i wiil be searching for a brackash tank to home him in if not he will be returned to the LFS.

when you mentioned snails i presume you meant he will eat them not that they are unsuitable for the tank.

you did not sound snobby, i am glad you replied you have probably saved a few fishes lives and save the puffer too

thanks

I indeed meant that he'll eat them :) I hope your snail is still ok

And I'm glad the post didn't sound too harsh :) Kudos on you for doing the best thing for all the fishies :)
