Hi!
I'm getting a 110L tank for christmas and already own a 60L tank, I want puffers but I also don't want to have 1 fish in a 110L tank with no other housemates! Swapping the fish from my 60L community is definately an option but what do you think would be a good setup? I really like bumblebee gobies too, though I'm unsure about the suitability of them with puffers. Thanks!

I don't know much on this, but I do no that some Puffers and Goby's (including Bumblebee's) will need salt in their tank. So they are Brackish.
Have you seen F8 Puffers? Stunning! I believe they are very aggresive to one another though, and again these are Brackish.

Sounds like you have the plans for a nice setup :good:

James.

I thought this too though I've just seen a post by Nmonks that says that captive bred bumblebees are more tolerant to freshwater so I'm not sure what to believe! They have a few F8's in my LFS along with some dwarves aswell ! I just love the look of the puffers it's just a shame they're so aggressive! I was also thinking about a SAP and some vampire crabs but I'm not too confident on my dentistry skills and I know nothing about crabs!

Yeah, this is the problem at the minute with Puffers and such. You hear different things regarding salt or freshwater from different sources.

A semi aquatic Fiddler Crab setup would be something different! Again, these are Brackish.

i wouldnt reccommend keeping puffer fish with any other housemates, i to like you was drawn in to puffer fish and how cute they are etc etc heres what ive had/ done

1 - i had some dwarf puffers in my community - BAD MISTAKE ok for first few days after that vicious litle punks had to rehouse on own, eventually sold tank with contents.

2- searched and searched internet for ideas and alot of people were saying the south american puffer was best community puffer, some people prob have kept them no bother but the 2 i had fin-nipped the hell out of my fish, as much as i thought they were lovely they had to go simple...

3-was given a 135 L tank for free and decided to use tropical fish finder.co.uk then wildwoods to get me an abei target puffer and housed it on its own and hes great

so it need serious thought when getting puffers as i learnt the hard way

cheers

ive had no problems with puffers. i had three GSP's (green spotted puffers) in a brak tank, one took dominant roll to the pack after 3 months so the other 2 would let it eat before they attempted to go for food. there were no fighting at all. gsp's will need salt in water some say they need to have a full marine when older but is isnt a must. but everyones experience will differ because puffers have different temperments they are individual minded, some are relaxed, some will tollerate, some will be as nasty as hell and grumpy and will be like a small puppy in a fishtank will nip at everything it can wrap its mouth around including ornimants, air lines, power chords for the heater and filters, some will come to the surface and jump and bite at your finger. some are so relaxed they not really bothered by other fish. at the LFS they all will be housed in same species tanks a good eye will tell for a nasty pasty and an angel of species just by watching the behaviour.

i have a MBU Puffer that is so relaxed its unreal, likes interaction with me and the kids, and isnt bothered with the cichlids in the tank
the only problem i have is the cichlids overpower and overwhelm the puffer for food, so when the lights are off at night and the cichlids are sleeping in thier jura rock caves i then slip my mbu(PIKA)a lovly big jucy king prawn in the shell, by the time the others have cotton'd on to the crunching sound its gone! PIKA goes off to her cave and the other look really P'd off they missed it!! pika is that laid back i can put my hand in the tank and she'll lean to one side to have her tummy tickled she loves it! so i have no worry of her attacking me when i clean the sand or shift the rock around.
