I've had a salt water puffer fih for over a year now. Not exactly sure what kind. It has quills (don't know if that automatically makes it a porcupine). I've fed her and all my fish a steady diet of frozen krill and brine with no problems. My wife & I went on vacation for two weeks and the kids took care of the fish. When we returned I noticed that the puffer wasn't eating. The kids said she ate well while we were gone. it's been two weeks and she still won't eat. She seems hungry and comes over when I feed everyone, but she doesn't take in anything. Anybody have any clues or suggestions. We really love this fish and don't want to loose her. Thanks in advance

humm... maybe she was over fed when you were gone, or... maybe she is getting sick...

Do you feed in crunchy things so it can wear down it's beak? I've heard if puffers aren't given foods like snails and shrimp there teeth will grow until they can't eat, like rabbits.

You check your water levels. Too much food can do plenty of damage to water quality, making your fishy not feeling well. Currently, my puffers seem not to be typical. They eat anything I will throw in, even the flake food for my sailfin mollies. I hope you puffer becomes more like mine soon. Again, test out that water. Best of luck.

other then what has already been said, are you sure the kids didnt feed it something, or add anything to the tank?

i would do daily water changes for a while. just to make sure!

well i thought puffers were brackish water fish maybe there is too much salt in the tank?

They have already said - its a saltwater puffer!

I have heard reports of people clipping the teeth of puffers if thats the problem, although this would really stress out the fish I suppose. However, if this is your only option, I would go with it - it may just save your puffer.

my puffers love to eat anything - the greedy pigs!

P.S If possible, you should get someone who knows what they are doing to do it, but if you can't, be very careful!

Most puffers are salt water not brackish. Some salt water puffers can reach up to 4ft in length! makes the brackish ones look like tadpoles :*)
