wev got a juwel rekord 60 downstairs with danios, guppys, platys, gouriamis (dwarf), catfish, corys, tetras, and we added 1 figure of 8 puffer yesterday.. but he keeps going in front of all the fish and fluttering is fins waiting to get nipped, he knows they nip him but he still goes infront of them and encourages them!! i think the other fish get transfixed by the fins and thinks its food and tri and eat it - becoz they dont do it aggressively? but i dont understand y hes foing it?? .... i found 1 of the danios 2 day with no tail left and had small teethmarks in it.. hte puffer is the ownly 1 with teeth in the tank  n e help??

Well, a figure 8 puffer won't work in this community for long. This puffer needs pH 7.5+, moderate to high hardness, and a specific gravity of around 1.005. With the exception of the guppies and (arguably) the platies, none of these other fish will tolerate that.

So regardless of the odd behaviour, move the puffer out as soon as possible.

Some puffers do become fin-nippers. This behaviour is variable, and not all species or specimens exhibit it. However, what you are describing with the danios is exactly what you'd see if the puffer was fin-nipping. Again, move the puffer out, and preferably keep alone.

Cheers,

Neale
