Hey, i have had my tank for almost a month now and my fish and plant for about 3 weeks... anyhoo i got home from work today and i saw a snail?!! my family didnt give me a snail and im pretty sure i didnt buy one. so i figure it must have come with my wooded plant.

:D its been eating my algae happily. i'll send a photo soon to see if u guys might be able to ID it but its got a semi see through shell with brown dots on it. the diameter of the shell is about 3/16 (3-4mm)

any ideas?

thanks :)

it is most likely a common pond snail, if you dont want alot of them, take them out when u see them. As they are 'pest' snails and multiply like crazy

ive only got one lol so i doubt it'll multiply

i think i'll keep him, unless he kills another snail... as soon as i have the time to go buy a couple more. my algae needs eating...

if he starts eating my anubias though... there will be hell to pay!

hate to say it but if it is a pond snail in only takes one to turn into hundreds. So keep a very close eye on the tank. Watch your plants and glass for eggs(looks kinda like snot spots). If you like having a snail maybe pick him out and get a less pesty snail like an apple, or mystery snail. If your not already attached which it sounds like you probably are :).

Really depends on the species. Most are sexually reproducing so unless it's a pregnant female, the odds are slim it will reproduce. If it is though, they will multiply fast. I have dozens of them now from a small handful about a year and a half ago.
