i was just wondering how to set up a holding tank as my Pseudotropheus lombardoi has a mouth full

is it OK to use rocks and water our of my cichlid tank and put it in the holding tank will i have to cycle it? how long should i wait be4 i move her into it?

most of the beneficial bacteria (like 90 something %) is in the filter media and very little is in the rocks, decor or water. You should cycle it w/something. Some media from your old tank?

A holding tank should be simple. You don't need any substrate. You could use water or rocks from your old tank. One or two things for the fish to hide behind are good. This makes it easier for cleaning.
