I'm just curious, how long does it usually take from the time one can see the little nubs/brown roots on the leaf until a plantlet forms and is able to separate from mother plant?

I read somewhere that if you are impatient, you can take a leaf and float it in your tank, and it will produce little plantlets. I was impatient, so I did exactly that, and I see several lumps with brown roots. Will all of them be viable?

Also, are all java fern varieties propagated the same way? (windelov, philippines)

well, i use a plant food in my tank and they just seem to appear overnight! i always wait until there is actually a plant growing so that it can take the req. nutrients from the mother plant

Thanks! I'll be diligent with fertilization, then :)

A little patience never hurts. A good number of the small plantlets will develop with time.

50...Wow. That's a lot!

Thanks, guys. I have some roots growing from intact leaves of the plant as well, though the severed leaf has more.
