problems with prenancy for platy?

my platy was pregnant when i bought it 2 weeks ago and it dropped to when i was at college... when i came home i removed her and release the fry from 'safe house' and there was only 5 extremely small fry and a lot of what looked like the skin of a fry with 2 black eyes on the end... there was quite a number of these floating around and it made me wonder... where they born like this (miscarriage... birth defect...) or did she eat them and spit that bit out?

I think they were probably dead when she gave birth to them but I am not 100% sure. You can ask in the livebeares section and they may be able to answer better than I can.
