Right, I have removed the bogwood, and as I said before did a massive clean up at the weekend. Deep gravel cleaning, scrubbed all the imitation plants etc, gave the filter a good clean out (in the old tank water) and replaced >30% of the water. I then added 10ml 6.5 Buffer and some bacteria booster.
In the process, I got rid of several 100 (1000) snails, and it now looks much better.
The water, slightly cloudy at first, settled down after 24 hours and is now crystal clear.
I shall try to add a picture in the Small Tank photo thread
I ordered an API Master Test kit as suggested, from Fantasea Aquatics in Nottingham yesterday afternoon. It arrived this morning. Fantastic service. (And I have mailed them saying so.)
So my readings are as follows:
Tank size: 16 UK Gals
Temp: 74f
Plants: Imitation
PH: 6.5
NH[sub]3[/sub]: .5 - 1.0 ppm
NO[sub]2[/sub]: 0 ppm
NO[sub]3[/sub]: 5 - 10 ppm
Fish:
4 Whiteclouds
1 adult & 3 baby Platys
4 Neon Tetras
3 Corys
2 Cherry Barbs
1 Guppy
