Problems In One Of My Tanks

How much water do I need to change (remembering this is a 6ft tank lol)? I only put a half dose of the velvet med in.

Does it sound like it's not velvet and it's something else?

xx

I would add the flubenol it treats a wide range of parasites they sound in a bad way and the flubenol is a fast worker.

Is that ok to do without a water change then seeing as there's only half a dose of the velvet meds in?

Yes do a water change and add the med.
Tney sound in a bad way and to be honest don't think you have much to lose.
The parasites have caused septicemia you wil needl to add anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Check your leaflet on the flubenol as it says you can use other meds with it.

Look under septicemia.

Thanks Wilder. Hubby is doing a water change now - is 25% enough?

The Wormer Plus doesn't say about using other meds with it but I am presuming it's the same as the old Flubenol that we used to be able to get and I know that said it was ok.

Another question (sorry) should I be running carbon to get the rest of the velvet meds out or not worry about it cos it was only a half dose that's been watered down now anyway and, as you say, I've nothing to lose?

Thanks

Just do a 30% water change and add the med, if you only used half dose.
I would add the bacterial med aswell as they have septicemia which the parasites have caused.

UPDATE: We lost a White Cloud and the last neon in the night. A few still look ill but I honestly thought I was gonna wake up this morning to quite a few gone. There are some fishies that don't look great but we'll keep trying until the end.

Thanks for the advice. x

R.I.P.
How are the fish now gyp5y5

Not good at all I'm afraid. After losing the 2 neons on Thursday, we lost a sturisoma, an albino cory and a guppy on Friday, another sturisoma, a neon, a guppy and a minnow on Saturday, a banjocat, a guppy, 2 minnow, a peppered cory and a gourami yesterday and a silver shark and 2 guppies so far this morning. The remaining silver sharks have a red tinge to their tails (I think - although I could just be seeing things that aren't there!) and look flaky and coated in something which I originally thought was skin peeling off but I've a feeling it may be something else (slime coat perhaps?). I have 4 cory cats left that all have either tiny red streaks on them or are coated in something. Most of the fishies eyes are covered in white.

Some fish are still eating (the ones that aren't showing much signs of something being wrong - i.e. only flicking so far) but most are not eating and breathing fast and hard.

I put Wormer Plus in on Friday night, along with Interpet Anti-internal bacteria meds. What should I do now? I thought the deaths and illness would tail off but I'm probably expecting too much too soon.

On a side note though, the cory that was one of the first to get ill is still fighting - fingers crossed for him.

Check your water stats and do you have plenty of aeration in the tank.

Doe is say in the wormer plus instructions when to redose.

Have been checking stats every day since we found the little bit of nitrite in there - have been reading Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 40.

We have an undergravel filter in there, one of the pipes has a powerhead on top, we also have an internal filter and a bubble disc.

The Wormer plus says re-dose after a week which would be Friday.

I've managed to get a (rather poor) picture of one of the sharks which might help.

Bless him can't make much out in the pic.

Have lost another albino cory, another guppy and a white cloud since my last post. A lot of my fish are coated in white stuff (excess slime coat?) which is flaking off on some of them and they have thick white stuff over their eyes.

Should I be treating with the slime and velvet treatment? I don't know what to do for the best. They don't seem to be getting better at all, losing more each day.

Thanks

I have been doing alot of research and am fairly convinced that costia is the problem we have.

I know that Waterlife Protozin treats this and am aware that only half a dose should be used when cory catfish and banjocats are present, however I have also read that half a dose would probably not be sufficient to eradicate this problem and that many people have used full doses with cory catfish and there have been no problems.

Has anyone had any experience of half dose Protozin and whether it is effective? Unsure as to whether to just chance it seeing as the situation has now become dire here and lots of fish are badly affected.

Thanks

That wormer plus hasn't done it job then as it meant to treat costia I think.
I would do a water change and add the waterlife med.

Can you post a pic of the sick fish.
Columnaris can look slimey aswell.
Are you still treating with the bacterial med, if so just add the correct amount of med back to the water removed.
