Fishaholic
at 9 am this morning the fish were fine about an hour later I noticed my fish were very lethargic and one of the rummynose tetras was dead, all fish were at the top of the tank gasping, firsth thing i thought was co2 overdose, although the co2 was not on since 7pm last night. so I did a massive water change while emptying the tank another reummy nose was having trouble and did not survive. the rest of the rummynose tetras were pale and there red noses were really dull in colour.
After the water change all the fish were fine, all eating and swimming well, 7 out of 9 the rummynose tetras seemed fine, so i lost two. I disconnected my co2 system and removed the pipe from the co2 container (fire extinguisher) so no carbon could get in. all day today the fish seemed fine until I went in checked on them at 7pm and this time all the fish were at the bottom of the tank but again very lethargic, one of the bolivian rams was gasping at the bottom of the tank and all the rummynoses were pale in colour again, the keyholes were just not moving but I lost another rummynose, so I done another water change and they seem fine again and swimming about like nothing happened.
nothing new has been added to the tank in ages, so not really sure whats going on, no c02 was capable of entering the tank at all today as it was all disconnected this morning.
my water stats are
ammonia : 0
nitrite : 0
nitrate :40
ph : 7.8
all my water stats have been rock steady for months like this, about 3 months back i had a little ammonia spike after I completely changed and removed a 3d background from the tank and think I lost some good bacteria.
im just completely dumbfounded on what is now going on as the stats are good and co2 can no longer get into the tank.
any ideas on what could be happening is really appreciated.
