Hi,
I've had my platy in a breeding trap off and on for a day or two. I finally woke up this morning to 5 fry. A hour or two later I looked and there were only 3. Then a bit later only 2. It was a plastic one with a V insert so I know the mother didn't get them. I'm assuming they fell (or escaped) through the slits in the bottom of the trap. When I bought it I wondered why it had slits in the bottom but assumed it was just to let the water circulate. I wasn't really concerned because I really didn't know just how small the fry would be. I was concerned about the last 2 fry so I did a little work and covered up the holes but now I'm concerned that the water won't circulate. What should I do? Do you think there is any chance the fry survived in the big tank. I'm doubtful because the other fish kept swimming around the trap. I'm sure they got them right away. I've looked around the bottom but they're so tiny I can't tell. I have 2 plants and a pirate ship so hopefully they're hiding.

On a seperate note the mother is still sort of squared off and still has the white spot by her anal fin. Could she be still ready to drop more? She's not hanging out at the bottom of the tank at all.

was it one like this

its possible the fry could have either have got eaten or escaped,if the fry are small enough to go through the space in the first place, its quite possible they could go back up through and the mother have eaten them.
If they escaped and they survive you will eventually see them in your tank.

My mickey mouse platy still looked squarish yesterday after her drop but now shes back to normal :)
