Hi
Have 8 female bettas in a 70L tank. Also in there are 3 oto's and a yoyo loach.

Yesterday we noticed one of the bettas had fungus under a gill. We isolated her and is being treated with myxacin. The fungus is protruding from the gill.

Also yesterday one of the others didn't look to happy and was being picked on so isolated her aswell. She has now died. She had a large white patch underneath, not fungus but the skin had gone white. She also showed signs of slight pine coning.

One other in the tank now has stringy poo and another is showing possible fungus on her nose.

What the heck do we do??

I have removed the yoyo loach into isolation as i know i cant treat the tank with him in it.

Can we try and remove any of the fungus from the gill area? Or would this be dangerous to the fish?

Tank stats - Fully cycled
Amm = 0
nitrIte = 0
nitrAte = 15
ph = 7.5
temp = 27

50% water change 5 days ago

Any help would be appreciated

Up date -
The female with the fungus in gill - As she appeared to be having trouble using pectoral and was showing initial signs of pine coning, we gave her an aquarium salt bath (didn't have epsom) and used a cotton bud to tease some of the fungus away.

She is still live today and the pine coning has reduced, but when viewed from above, both gills are flared. She will still feed.

o no guys! :( thats so sad,

im sorry i dont know enough to help. :(

i have my fingers crossed for all your little girls!

Thanks Laura :good:

She is still with us and we noticed now that she is using her right pectoral fin again which she wasn't yesterday as the fungus was getting in the way.

Fingers crossed she will make it.

Ypu are dealing with a bacterial issue. Get some Interpet anti-internal bacterial med from you LFS, and treat the whole tank, as this is very contagious. Salt baths are a good treatment if the infection is in the gills, but I wouldn't attempt manual removal of such infections, as it may damage the gills and caurse the fish to bleed to death.

Thanks Rabbut....we have now treated the whole tank with anti bac but are keeping the girl with the fungus isolated as they had been picking on her. We wouldn't normally have attempted to remove some of the fungus but as she looked like she was going die at any minute we decided we had nothing to lose by trying. Luckily she seems much more active today and the pine coning seems to have gone down too.......although as we all know with sick fish.....tomorrow is another day. Fingers crossed :good:
