Probably The Best Algae Guide Ive Ever Read .

have read that guide a few times, some of the eradication's are a bit dated on that blog. The intro is very good though.

Do you read a lot of algae articles then? ;)

I would go a little further than Ian and suggest some of the 'causes' of algae are off the mark completely.

Namely 'organic build up'. A non CO2 tank depends on 'organic build up' or it will actually be more susceptible to algae. I actually let it build up iwhether high or low tec.

Then it starts talking about uncycled tanks not having enough bacteria etc. Many of us do not cycle at all. lol

That little 8 litre I just setup was a case of substrate in, hardscape in, plants in, water in and away she goes.

EI ferts added daily along with 'recommended' dosage of Easycarb with 1 weekly water change :) No cycling at all and no issues :)

So I would strike 'organic build up' and 'uncycled filters' off the list myself although you could swap this just for 'localised ammonia that may be caused by...organic build up'

What happens if you add NO3 and PO4 to a non-planted tank? Algae?

ok then what IS a good 1?

If algae spores have been allowed to bloom (by getting enough light and ammonia) then the added NO3+PO4 will help the algae grow. This will only happen though if the algae spores have been allowed to bloom. Therefore the NO3 and PO4 have still NOT caused the algae, as such.
