how does a gravel vac not suck up gravel or sand?

does it have a filter somewhere on it or something?


gona pick one up cos at the mo i jus use a siphon with my hose which is pretty crap.


also has anyone used anything like this.

I think that the gravel or sand is just to heavy and there is a fine balance betwwen the weight differences. Also I tried my vac on sand and it got ruined.

Don't waste your dosh.
Just use a gravel cleaner (wide tube) on the end of your hose & lift it up if the sand gets near the top of the wide part. You clean the substrate in sections at each water change.
It is worth getting a tube almost as deep as your water - it does make things easier.

aparently if your using it on sand you need to hold it just above the surface and make a circular motion and this simply wisks the fishy poo and other rubbish off the surface of the sand...

yep but thats why you have to hold it off the bed fo sand or no more sand lol (ive only got gravel but have read that bit)
