I don't know that I'd say it is a good sign. A plant can still grow even when ammonia, nitritate, and nitrites are at dangerous levels to fish.

to be honest i have no idea my petshop checks my levels for me every week for the first 4 mths as that was what they offered me and they told me i was ok to add more fish but will be getting a test kit as i am buying a new 4ft tank and this time doing a fishless cycle
