Hi,

All my plants have arrived this morning from AquaEssentials. This is the first time I have had plants that are in pots. Do I take them out of the pots? It looks like I will have to add some substrate as well so they have a good footing. I do have a spare bag so I will clean that up. Any hints on the order of doing this would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance ...

You take them out of the pots and also remove as much of the wool as you can with out much damaging the roots

Hi there!

Yup, take the potted ones out of the pots. Just be gentle on their poor little roots.
How much substrate do you have? If you don't think you have enough you probably don't. And believe me, trying to keep plants in a skimpy amount of substrate is NOT fun. You finish doing all the gardening, and a couple hours later you come back and the darn things are all floating at the surface again! Oh, and while you are at it adding more substrate, consider getting some substrate fertiliser tablets? you just pop them into the substrate just near your plants roots.

Hiya,

When I ordered the plants, I also ordred some Flourish and some tabs :good:

Looks like I have a busy evening in store, but it will be worth it.

The substrate I have in the tank at the moment is at about 1 1/2 inches. I thought it was more, but I must have measured it last time in a place where there was a mound of it

All the plants I have purchased in the past have not really been all that substantial (not from AquaEssentials I hasten to add). These new ones look more established and in much better condition.

Many thanks all for your help ;)

PS - the only silly question is the one that isn't asked ;) we all started somewhere

I started all this just over a year ago and I only wish I had found this place at that time. My hubby has always wanted Tropical fish, but unfortunately it is me that has to do all the work - typical male ( don't all lynch me now) :hyper: I have found that I am fascinated by the whole thing. I used to love fishing, but I find this far more humane and enjoyable ;)

I am learning all the time and am so grateful for everyone's help and advice :good:
