I will soon be moving my Peacock Gudgeons into their destination tank....should I be pretreating for internal worms..if so, how do I know if the treatment worked or if they even had worms.
Thanks bunches ☆

I deworm all fish while they are in quarantine just to make sure they are free of worms.

You can't tell if fish have worms or if the worms have been treated successfully, but most fish do carry a few intestinal worms and deworming medications used correctly should kill any worms in the fish.

@itiwhetu

Having fought a long battle (SEVERAL months) over what I think was internal parasites and keeping a tank full of fish in limbo I am now considering preventive measures. I've recently euthanized several and actually have 5 WCMMSs that I am currently worried about.

Now I am excited about moving my 4 Peacock Gudgeons into my 20g that houses my 6 Blue-eyed Forktails. I've been planning this tank forever and don't think I can endure the possibility of a diseased tank.

I know how you feel from other posts, and believe me I can see your point, but I am going to have to take precautions this time.

Just for the record I don't take flu shots.

I have prazipro, should I do one dose?

I would dose the prazipro. I have dosed my tanks very occasionally if I suspected possible parasites. I put the dose in a jar of tank water and distribute it all around the surface and into the filter inflow area. I have never noticed the fish to be negatively affected by it.

If you are going to deworm fish, you need to treat them once a week for 3-4 weeks to kill adults worms and baby worms that hatch from eggs.

You also need to treat with Levamisole as well as Praziquantel.
Praziquantel only treats tapeworm and does not treat thread/ round worms.

Levamisole only treats some thread/ round worms and does not treat tapeworm.

Flubendazole treats both types (tapeworm and thread/ round worms).
