Hi again

I have just ended a 2 week succesful treatment of white spot in my community tank using King British Original Formula WS3 (highly recommended by LFS)

I have a 110 litre tank and medicated with 27 drops every 48 hours

I have read on alot of forums that medicating the tank a little every time i get new fish will work wonders (dont have QT)

My questions are

1. How many drops should i add to the tank on introduction of new fish?

2. If a piece of carbon sponge was inside my internal filter for 8 days (whilst tank was cycling) then i removed it until now (2 weeks later) will the carbon still work ie remove the medication if i place it back in the filter?

ty for your time

Don't use preventative medications, it is harmful. All meds are based on poisons, that's how they work, and they increase the toxic stresses on the fish. When you dose already stressed fish that are not ill, you increase the stress on them and make them more prone to other diseases, that happen to be lurking in the background of any healthy tank, that tey otherwise would not go down with. With all due respect to those that have made the recommendation to you, if their care was any good, they would not need preventative medications to keep their new stock healthy, them finding they need to use them indicates that their care is rubbish :sad: Also, having background levels of the medication in the water increases the chances of developing a medication resistant strain of the disease that is then very difficult to treat.

So, to summarise;

Only medicate when absolutely necessary :good: Buy healthy stock to start, and then focus on keeping it healthy with good husbandry, i.e keep the tank clean, water good and aim to reduce stress where possible by keeping the room quiet for a few hours, tank lights off e.t.c

All the best
