Do you know of any pretty top-dwellers? The only fish I can think of are hatchets, but they're not very pretty.

Male guppies are some of the loveliest fish.

Pearl, Honey or Dwarf Gouramis are all very pretty, active & colorful.
Depending on the size of the tank & the other occupants of course.

celestial pearl danios or glowlight danios.

We have six diamond tetra's: A pretty, schooling fish. I would like more but my tank is fully stocked with them and clown loaches (you can tell by my signature that I'm a bit of a fan). Diamond tetra's though, good value, seem pretty hardy and active most of the time.

My good lady calls them Sparkly fish!!

Not really surface dwellers.

Apollo sharks are one of my favorites but get big. African butterflies are another favorite, not very colorful though. Most livebearers....

Panchax are great if you want thugs that eat all fish smaller than an adult platy.

How about Chela Dadiburjori? They are easily available but dont sell well, same as a lot of beautiful species! We caneasily get hold of them but whats the point if they dont sell!>

They are small as/smaller than danios, surface dwelling, have little upturned fins like hatchets, shoaling and 100% gentle (mor so than most danios!)...

They have to be in a nice tank to colour up, but once coloured up, a lovely shade of yellow with metallic blue strip/dashes and dots down the sides.

I agree with golden wonders being that way, but most other species are small and only aggressive with each other.
