I purchased a 15l BioOrb last November and have a zebra and a pearl danio and 4 neon tetras. I put in some ghost shrimp but when I saw one of them attacking and eating one of the tetras, I decided that it was time for them to go. I have since put in some cherry shrimp however this morning came down to see 1 of the neons was missing. Have checked the gravel and the filter but can't see it at all - question - do I need to find the neon to remove it - when I have found dead fish in the past I have managed to find them but this one seem to have gone awol? Second question is that I now trying to establish a 2nd 50 litre tank (where the ghost shrimp have emigrated to) and am looking for ideas for what to put in. I have purchased a few plants which I am waiting for and would really like a Betta however would it be best to set up a couple of shoals of smaller fish or just a few larger ones - I know the limitations on certain fish mixed with Betta. Open to suggestions. Wanting easy maintenance but with a bit of a wow factor. Thanks

Hi, welcome to this wonderful hobby. Ghost shrimp are scavengers and it is very very unlikely that it attacked your neon, the neon may have been sick and stayed at the bottom lifeless and the shrimps could have thought it was food for them.

In your 50 litre tank you could put a betta in there (only 1 male though), small livebearers could also be another option e.g. Platy's, Guppies, Mollies etc. I wouldn't go for big fish as they could eat your shrimp. :)

I saw the shrimp physically catch the neon, the neon tried to swim away but the shrimp clung on and started to eat the neon alive. I have googled this and spoken to our local fish specialist and they said that they do know reports of them getting quite aggressive depending on how big they grow - these were about an inch long. Thought that it could be a different breed of shrimp but all the photos etc seem to still maintain that it is a ghost shrimp. Find the shrimp quite fascinating though so would like to keep them - since we moved them yesterday they keep acting dead every time we try to look at them! Wasn't sure about guppies with Bettas - thought they may attack? Also could do with some advice on bedding down the plants i.e what fertilisers to use as none of the plants ordered are weighted - have about 3kgs of pea gravel at the bottom of tank. Thanks.

Your ghosts were probably not ghosts they were probably the macro species, and since your tank is only 15 liters I would say that you can't have fish any more fish Because your tank is already overstocked as it is and the fish are not in proper setups In My Opinion, and no fish at all is suitible for a Biorb :good: so you are better off getting a larger tank

I am not looking to put any more fish in bioorb - i have 7 fish in this and think this is ok (tell me if I am wrong) but am wanting advice on the 50l tank and what to put in that

sorry 5 fish- i zebra danio, 1 pearl danio, 3 neon tetra, 2 cherry shrimp and a rogue snail

Starting to think that probably bioorb was not the best thing to get - been told its the ipdad of aquariums(!)

Also I gpot tank 2nd hand - filter designed for 150 litre tank and using this in 50l (was being used for large coldwater goldfish at the time) pretty powerful - is this ok?
