ok so i did some re-arranging today as you may have noticed about my High Fin Blue Platy not eating much anyway, she's in teh small tank now and ate a ton once i put the food in...like bloodworms and flakes...then i moved the sunset wag tail prego into the 5 gallon tank with my 2 tiny cories. I thought I read somewhere on here that hte cories will just clean up and not harrass her or eat the fry, is that right??? just want to make sure since she's probably gonna burst anyday....one other final note i found a zebra body in the community tank when trying to get the fish moved, i swear it was attacked, then a live zebra that didn't mind the net half floated half swam to the net while all other fish ran away...i had to euthanize it as i noticed it was obviously dying and almost looked wounded.....i really suspect either A. my big zebra dannio is attacking the dannios that are smaller or B. The Chinese Algae Eater is becoming a biotch and attacking the fish in my tank  Anyway, if you can let me know what you think about my new setup and if it seems ok at least for now....I am looking to get a 30-50 some gallon tank so this is all temporary until then :)

10 gallon 1 sunset wag tail platy male, 3 zebra dannios, 1 CAE

5 gallon 1 sunset wag tail platy female, 1 Bronze C. Aeneus, 1 C. Pleateus

2 1/2 gallon 1 High Fin Blue *refusing to put the MM in* ;) Platy

Thank you!

Brian

Yeah, the Cories should be fine with the fry and mother. They never seem to go for the fry.

Eventually when you get the big tank, I'd look at making the 5 and/or the 10g your fry tank, as 2.5 is really a bit small. Since you said she seems pretty close, it should be okay, but I wouldn't leave her in much over a week.

My bet would fall on the CAE, because Danios don't seem to be all that aggressive against their own kind. Sure, they have little tiffs, but nothing that major. It is possible there could be a disease though. No signs of anything? Water params?

Are you on a strike against Mickey Mouses? :p

Anna,

Thanks, new you'd respond :) Yes, I do not like MM term, so I'm either leaving it out or coming up with a new name...I discussed Sanyo with Natsuko, since the symbol for Sanyo is 3 circles since Mitsubishi wouldn't work b/c that's 3 diamonds...anywho...yeah she likes the small tank for now and eating and stuff...the prego in teh 5 gal seems to be ok with the cories...imoved my live plants so there should be tons of cover now for the fry and the 10 is quite empty now with all those fish gone....i suspect the CAE only b/c they seemed to have marks on the body just like the neons that i found before...plus he went after the male platy last night too...my male is the biggest male ive ever had and he went after the zebra when he got pissed b/c the blue high fin wouldn't put out and the zebra got in teh way lol it was funny

Awww, how'd you know? :p

Good luck with changing the name. I know I could never remember to call them Sanyo or how to spell that, or even how to say that. I think most everyone will stick with the good ole' Mickey Mouse, it's ingrained and easy to remember, and it makes sense. And who doesn't know Mickey Mouse with the ears? :fun: Of course, it's fine for you to call them whatever you want, I just wouldn't expect it to become world wide. ;)

I'm not worried so much about the one in the 5, instead the one in the 2.5. But keep an eye on both. They should be fine though. Good luck!

hehehe, i figured u'd answer ur always here ;) Anyway, yeah i know im not gonna get rid of the name b/c everyone uses it and it's easy since it does look like that, just sounds too Disney for my taste lol but ill probably just omit the name...anyway, yeah i'll keep an eye on all of them the two cories instantly went together into the cave and came out for their late night snack, the prego is swimming around the tank, and the blue high fin in teh 2.5 is at the top a lot but looking a lot less scared now that there's glass and about a foot b/w her and the male lol i just wish the other would give birht so i could throw all the platys together and nobody has to be sexually assaulted or lonely b/c they're the only one of their species in the tank ;) lol...also besides this new addiction im back to ebay at work all the time looking for locals with huge tanks cheap...i found some real big ones not too far from me and i put them on watch to see if the price changes any b/c $50 is doable even withought a bonus ;) Once I get fry, or setup huge tank, I'll be sure to send pics

Thanks as usual,

Brian

I'm not always around, but I check in throughout the day. Though not so much anymore, due to the cancer/house shuffling. I always seem to be here when you post though. We have good timing. ;)

I agree, it is a bit cutesy. I've heard worse though.

I'm sure the blue MM (For the sake of you, I abbreviated it) is happier to be away from the male! It'll probably take her a little while to get used to the smaller and empty tank, but it will be better for her in long run and during labor. As long as she doesn't appear to be gasping at the surface, I'd say it's okay. She may be looking for more food if she hasn't eaten in a few days. They need lots of food when they are close to giving birth, to get their strength up, so it may be beneficial to give her a small meal of the Bloodworms.

If you lived around here I could help you out. There's two 75g and a 120 for sale right around me. I myself am going for a 70g, but I'm buying it new because the stand has to work in the dining room. After that, I'm going big...180-250. :hyper: I'd love to see pictures if you got a bigger tank. And good luck finding one!

Edit: My spelling ability leaves me at night. Sorry. :X

yeah that must be hard for you...i think i read that before one of my other crazy posts and was surprised you replied...i think it was aroudn the time you said you would be gone for the weekend at your uncles...anyway, thanks for the MM I think I might use that Blue High Fin MM Platy :) yeah the timing thing must be b/c ur one of the few from over here...obviously the site is .co.uk which i love reading their crazy Brittish English hehehe Anyway, yeah timiing always works...yeah im not sure what to do about the huge tank as there is not much room in my living room for anything...only thing would be if i cleaned the shelving unit and moved tanks onto those for tower of fish then moved love seat out and put the huge tank on that wall then it could work...otherwise im not so sure...right now i've got them all lined up on my dining room table in an L shape yeah the blue MM was at the middle but i don't think she is gasping and yeah she loves the bloodworms...the prego sunset platy is more picky and seems to only like the frozen shrimp or the flake...sometimes she'll eat peas too if i smash them and she is hungry...thanks agian for responding as usual and hope you and your uncle are well...anyway not sure what else to say... <(*o*)> (fish ? ) lol

I agree with anna it is prob the CAE i got rid of my 3 that I had the LFS said they don't go for smaller fish but I disagree as my female platy that died had a wound on its side and it wasnt until I saw the CAE chasing a platy that it clicked and I nearly got rid of my betta who is def not the culprit!

Hey what do you mean by crazy british language! Were not the crazy ones lol......... Then again we had an american temp work here she was great fun and she even said we were crazy! Hey who cares you guys are part british too :p

Blue Hi-Fin MM works, at least that can click in my slow brain and will probably work for others too. :)

The site actually has more American visitors, which you can see by clicking the tiny gray arrow at the very bottom of any page. However, not that many of them seem to frequent the Livebearer section. :X

It seems the only solution is to get a bigger house. Simple. :p I'm sure you'll find room somewhere though. Maybe consider a tall tank? Go up, instead of out. It's harder to clean, but if it makes things work.... You also have to be careful if you are going to put it upstairs because of the weight. It helps to put it over the Y beam (I think it's called? I don't know, some beam) because it supports the weight better. Also, find out which way the beams are running, then put it across them so it rests on as many beams as possible.

Natsuko,

LOL, I've always had a thing for Brittish accents and just love the slang...but anyway, hope you get it that i don't mean Brits are CRAZY, b/c I think we're a little crazy over here too...Anyway, now I don't know what to do about my CAE :( He's really cool looking and I can't 100% confirm but now I'm concerned since I saw him go after my male platy and you said you found a dead one with marks and I swear the there were marks on previous dead fish in my tank as well....I'm really bad at returning things, so I don't know if I could even go back to the store I got him at and be like this fish you told me wouldn't attack my little fish is so take it back! would come out from my mouth.....grrrr i hate stuff like this.....Anyway, to Anna, yeah I know I've seen a lot of americans on here now, but I think when I first started all I saw were the Brits and will never forget the one comment about keeping dannios in a small tank was "like keeping a pony in the cupboard" or something like that that made me laugh so hard when i read it...Anyway LOL like hte way you think. Call a real estate agent "Yes, I need to buy a new house as I would like to expand my fish tanks to a whole aquatic zone. Do you have anything with like 5 rooms on the first floor that could hold my tanks?" hahahaa... Also, I am on the second floor of the condo so maybe I should find out soon about the beams lol. My poor neighbor below me keeps goldfish and probably wouldn't appreciate more fish, a smashed aquarium and my floor/her ceiling on her living room floor ;)

 The look on their face would be great. "You're...moving. For...fish?".

Definitely find out about the beams, if you're looking at going over 40-50 or so gallons. Which it sounds like you are.

Anna,

I was, but now I'm not so sure...I did see a nice 35 gal hex tower type on ebay for like $50...how many of my platys and cories would fit in that? Maybe only like 12-14 fish in total maybe less since platys are so darn messy...Natsuko is really getting me started about returning my CAE, although I don't know if I can do that...which would leave only the couple dannios and my male platy in the 10 which would become a fry tank later as you were talking about....just i don't know if 35 gal is enough for me or not lol although considering the whole room issues, i should be careful about buying huge tanks that would probably end up going in the middle of the living room since there are too many couches in the way...grrrr...oh well

Hexs are bears, I'd stay away from them. They distort the look of the fish, and the seals don't tend to be as strong. Also since they tend to be taller, the amount of fish isn't that many, since surface space plays a part in it too. I'd say maybe...8-10 of the Platies, and 5-6 Cories? Might be pushing it a bit though.

I'd also return the CAE, or give it to someone with a big enough and suitable tank. They can get very aggressive, as you've seen, and they'll also get way to big for a 10g. :X

yeah i keep looking at the 50+ tanks and  yeah I don't know anyone that keeps fish except my dad and that was goldfish in an outdoor pond, and i doubt the CAE would survive in that...I just hope the CAE will stay in his cave and not attack the rest of the fish that are in the 10 with him :X anyway sigh I think ill have to wait for bonus time to roll around if i get one, to get a nice big tank
