I can now tell when my fish are pregnant so not asking that lol. I have about 175 babies already and i do nt have any males so just waiting til the females are done reproducing since they hold the sperm for sometime. Now my question is i know that one of my platys is pregnant. When i got her she was pregnant. I got her and another female that was pregnant which died trying to give birth. Now she has been pregnant for about 2 months which is unreal but i am very certain she is pregnant i dont know if she just isnt releasing them or what but i'm afraid that over time she will die because she has been holding them for sometime and the water temp is more on the warmer side since i know that can help. Just wondering if i can do anything else to help her and also is it safe to say the babies are probably dead now and she could die if she doesnt release them? Thanks

Ok. sorry to hear the distress with your platty> My wife is the platty expert in our family, i keep larger fish in my tank. Being as she is out right now, I seem to remember the same with one of her platties in her 180l "small fish" tank, and a MAJOR water change- i'd say about half the tank, seemed to release the babies.
As you said, alot were dead, but some were alive and we still have the mother today.

hope that helps

She might have had a very small drop, thrown fry at night and then eaten them. A whole drop can just vanish into thin air this way...
Can you post a photo so we can see how pregnant she is? If it was my fish and she was having trouble giving birth, I might be inclined to clove-oil her and try to extract the fry by hand, but that's not likely to do much unless she's actually in labour and having trouble.

Here is a pick it isnt the best cause she kept moving soo much. The gravid spot is actually a big more for another angle

the other one i had was like that and died giving birth. I got the two at the same time and was told they were both pregnant. For awhile she was bigger then got a little skinner and she is starting to fill out again. Its weird but i read somewhere that sometimes if they are stressed they wont release the eggs and they can refertilize the eggs. Dont know if thats tru and its odd lol..

I've never heard that...
If she shrank and then blew up again, that might be a sign that she aborted the last lot of fry for whatever reason - stress, deformed fry, sometimes they do it for no apparent reason - and then promptly became pregnant agiain.

She looks pretty big...
