Pregnant?

I've been trying to determine whether or not this platy is pregnant or not. She's gotten much larger since I brought her home, I can see where the eggs are but no gravid spot. I'm assuming platies get the same dark gravid spot as guppies, right?

I did find a couple orange fry in the tank a couple weeks ago and I'm assuming those are platies as well. I've had several guppies give birth around the same time but their fry are white and/or gray...not orange. I haven't found anymore orange fry. I don't know who had them and I'm still trying to figure out if this one is pregnant or not.

She's Pregnant. I'd give her around 1 week or less.

Any idea why she doesn't have a dark gravid spot like I see on my guppies? I have a smaller dwarf platy that is large like this and two white mickey mouse platies that are also large.....NONE of them have a dark gravid spot. Do they not get that like guppies do?

They get gravid spot's, but with some platies such as dwarf's, they are so small, that thier body dosent really get gravid.

Mine looked like that right before she gave birth and she didn't really have a gravid spot either.

Gravid spots are more visible on some fish than others, just cos a fish is pregnant it dosent mean you will see a dark gravid spot, also when a fish drops fry, it does not mean the gravid spot will fade..

Guppies and endlers gravid spots are the main fish that have dark gravid spots, pregnant or not.

Even vigin fish can have a gravid spot as many will tell you

1-2 weeks before she drops, best way to look is from a overhead view to see how wide ther belly is

and also look for a drop near the anal fin, when she is ready to drop, she will dwell on bottom, or near plants, or may hang around the surface of the water or near the heater..

If you have a internal filter, she may hang around it, for some reason a lot of pregnant fish tend to hang around these for a reason that i do not know
