hi we have 2 pregnant platys in our tank and they are both now hiding in the cave anyone know when they are likely to give birth to their fry they started to hide yesterday and again today havent seen them much ,also how long after do we take them out of the breeding tank thanks sharpy

It's hard to say, since we don't know your fish, what they look like, or what their normal signs of labor are. But you described are sometimes behaviors fish exhibit when they are about to have their fry. I'd keep an eye out.

How many gallons is your breeding tank? The larger it is, the less chance you have of stressing them out. I'd say a couple days, if it's large enough, just to make sure they have had them all. But you also run the risk of them eating their fry. Adding plants in, especially floating ones, helps with that. But the choice is your's.

Good luck. :)

hi, the tank is a breeding one that we use just for the moms it is 20 inches by 12 inches wide with loads of places for the moms to hide and the fry as we just moved the guppy fry from there to my big tank down stairs we had 2 females from the mom as we lost a few , they are still in the cave we got hiding away but nothing as yet we havent seen any little fry movement yet but we are still watching out for them thanks sharpy

Okay. That's a decent size, you could leave them in there a bit. Just make sure there is no stress on them, and you should have fry soon. :)
