Hi my platty is about to give birth is it better to put her in a breeding trap or take my chance in the main tank. My tank has alot of plants thanks for any help Daz

That depends on what other types of fish you have and just how lush your plants are. Some will definitely get eaten but if there are plenty of hiding places where other fish can't get to them, you should have a few survivors. If you want lots of fry, put her in a breeding tank/trap.

Thanks for your reply she only went in my tank today from a mate who is shutting his tank down. Will the stress of being put in a trap this soon be to much for her im not sure how pregnant she is her belly is very square and fat

Hmm, I understand your concern. What sort of a trap is it. I'm only familiar with the ones that are hard plastic that float in the tank and have a level on the bottom for the fry to fall through so they don't get eaten by the mother. How big is the trap?

It's the trap your talking about and its not that big dont think i will put her through any stress and keep her in the tank. Maybe i will see the fry and rescue them

You can purchase a fine mesh net to catch the fry. Good luck with the babies:)
