pregnant platy

Annastasia - you're my hero - Thanks for all the help!
Here's the final pic of the tank! I don't think i could do any more - but if there is please tell me - i really want the baby's to all survive and thrive.
I can't wait - i just bought another male platy and a male guppy so next time the guppies get pregnant i'll KNOW they're regular guppies.
i'll take pics of the new guys soon.
So here's the tank

Perfect....just perfect. All the babes still may not survive, but there's a good chance most of them will. It's mostly going to be the matter of them getting food. And being fast enough and smart enough to not get eaten. They'l learn in time. :)

Even if you do get another Male Platy and Guppy, you can't guarantee the next pregnancy will come from them seeing as the females can store sperm. I am not quite sure how it will work, mating with a new male. Not sure if that "over-rides" the stored sperm or what! :p

Anyway, best of luck! Keep us updated! :D

Edit: Can't believe I missed the Hero Comment,...so thanks very much. It flatters me. Nothing I like more then knowing I helped someone. :D And if you ever have anymore questions, never hesitate to ask!

so there's a good chance that the mothers will eat the babies?!
oh and the platy's are "purebread" for lack of a better word. i have 1 male to 2 females and they absolutely weren't pregnant when i got them...and it was a whole tank of nothing but tri-colours...the guppies on the other hand....WHO KNOWS!

If the mothers can catch the fry, ususally they will eat them. Some mothers won't (Usually Guppies), some will. I'd be more worried about the other females in the tank, then the actual mother. But that's why you have lots of plants and fry hiding places. :) I'd expect a couple to get eaten, but most should survive.

Guppies are really hard to predict what color they will come out. They are so inbred to get these fancy colors, who knows what is thrown in there. They may LOOK the same, but that doesn't gurantee fry that color. Some may be, but you'll also get some oddities. Makes it interesting.
