Hello,

I am new to this site, but have a question. About a month ago, I bought three platy fish and a betta. Then this past Saturday I bought two more platies.. on Sunday one of the platies i bought amonth ago dropped some fry.. very surprised.. anyways.. i looked up on how to tell if a platy is pregnant..and it appears that one of the new platies is pregnant.. and is possibly going to drop soon. ahh.. I would like to keep the fry and raise them. I am going to be buying a new tank in two weeks.. when I get paid again. Right now, I have the first batch of fry in a 1 gallon container with holes poked in it small enough so the fry can not get out.. placed inside of my tank.. I do have a large 1 gallon fish bowl as well.. but no extra filter. Can I put the pregnant one in there for now until she drops her fry? Or should I just leave her in the tank and let nature do its course this time around?

Thanks

You could put the female in but she may decide to have fry for dinner too! You do realise that you are going to be over run with fry if you have males and females dont you? They will breed like rabbits and you will be lucky if the fish shop will take them off your hands then you will have a stocking problem. I would leave the female in the main tank and let nature take its course.
