ok my wife and i are new to platty's and we think that 3 of them might be pregnant. how can we tell? they hover around the grasses in the tank and only swim around to eat or when another fish gets near them. all 3 have gotten huge over the past few weeks, alot bigger than the males, how can we tell if they are? and are they live bearers or egg layers?

thanks
dj and kim

How to tell if a platy is pregnant: if it's a female, she's pregnant

platies are always pregnant unless kept in a female only environment for months.... :D

You should be posting this in the livebearer forum as they are livebearers. Platys should be kept at a ratio of 2 females per male, they will usualy be pregnant as they store sperm and can become pregnant up to 8 times in a row without males around. They will get chubby after being pregnant for about 2 weeks. They have babies after being pregnant for about a month, but they will eat their fry.
