I would keep the fry separated if you want to ensure their survival. I would not place the mother in a breeding trap for birthing as I've heard from many other people that this causes stress and may cause the mother to abort the fry.
If there are plenty of hiding places, the fry can be safe and hide out and grow up okay most of the time. You could get
this and catch some of the fry after they are born.
I'm not sure how I feel about fry in these net incubators though, because if you don't raise them large enough before releasing them, they seem to become snacks pretty quickly. Fry that are raised with the adults seem to be able to swim freely although they are still mouth-sized snacks. It's like they don't know how to live with the adults if you separate them.
Sometimes the fry, even though small, will swim around freely and not worry about the adults. Separating them for a couple months should allow them to get big enough to not worry about the adults if that's the way you want to go. They can eat crushed up flakes, but they may not eat for the first couple days so don't worry about that.
