ok, 2 weeks ago my platie was very pregnant, and then my 56 gal aquarium exploded. :hyper: she was on the dining room floor for probably 10 minutes before i found her and put her in the other 2.5 gal tank. i was too stressed to look but figured she would have aborted. :hyper: about 16 hours later i got the new tank back together and put her back in and noticed she was still pregnant. that was a saturday night. on the following saturday she was so huge and it had been so long i put her in a breeding net. monday morning i woke at 5 am and found that about 25% of the water had leaked out of the tank :grr: leaving her high and dry in the breeding net, don't know how long but when i picked it up i thought sure she was dead. when i picked her up she wiggled so i dropped her back in and she swam away. i moved all the fish into my new 55 gal and drained the 56 before it could leak anymore. she is swimming around the 55 gal now looking like she will explode, but no babies yet. can they hold them in till the time is right? or could the two times she was out of the water have killed them and now they won't come out? :dunno:

not sure but that sucks your tank popped....did all four sides come out??? They get mucho fato when there going to give birth so your close good luck

I think its very possible for a female to hold back if the circumstances aren't right or she feels stressed. It happens to me, I'll have a female (who's due that day) swimming around the tank trying to escape the horny males, but she can never rest to have her fry. This could go on for hrs and I wouldn't see fry. Then i scoop her out, put her in the breeder trap and poof! She starts having them by 3's right in front of me!
But in this circumstance, she may have been a little too stressed and could've aborted them. The good thing is she's also a livebearer so more fry will be arriving within a month

she is still huge, never got any smaller, and her gravid spot is still big and visible, she is bigger than my other platie was when she dropped. don't know wether to put her in the net or figure she is stressed enough as it is and leave her alone, not real worried about the fry this time still trying to get the 56 gal situated and set back up agian and not much room for babies

should i put her back in the net?

i would turn up the heat or put her in a nutha tank so she is more relaxed
