I was watching one of my female balloon mollys and i noticed something. When she swam away from me i noticed that behind the belly part of her is very greenish inside of her. Im not sure if it is pregnant because it is green. It looks like there is an algae wafer in the back of her belly. Ill post pics ltr. Is she pregnant though?

Well usually it is black in color, unless it could have been a type of dark green or maybe there was a color reflection from something else. What color is the female molly herself? Has she been going to the bathroom normally?

The color of the spot is like an algae wafer color. the part where the gravid spot is, is normally white i think. Heres a pic of her color (note this is not a recent pic of her now). I think she is going to the bathroom normally, i never really pay attention but im looking at her right now and she is pooping.

Shes the one on teh right.

It's possible, i'm assuming you have males in the tank? And if she looks larger then normal then she might be.

She doesnt look larger, she looks same size in pic. I dont have any males at all. I bought her 2 weeks ago ( that when i took pic).

So now males, but there is still a chance she could have mated at the petstore tank. So therefore she may have babies, but it's hard to say.

Do you feed them algae wafers actually?

Well it comes down to this I believe, she may be pregnant, however it is hard to say because she may have gotten fertilized from the petstore, but in transport home may have decided to abort them cause of stress sometimes. So it is possible for her to be holding babies now if she has them that i'm not sure of. I doubt you would be able to see her food content in the back there like that.

i personally don't use breeder boxes as they tend to stress the female out which can cause her to abort the fry, i'd leave her in the main tank then net the fry as you see them :good:

PLz tell me when to put in box. If i let her do it what u said, there is a big chance i wont be home and i have a lot of fish that will eat. This is my first time with a fish giving birth ( i want to start breeding). Here are some pics with the green spot just to make sure she is pregnant.

This one is blurry but you can see the spot.

You can see the greenish edge on her bottom.

the first sign to look for is probs faster breathing, she could also try find a place where she feels safe so watch for her hiding away too :good:

By looking at the pics you think shes close to giving birth? When you say safe spot, will it be near the ground? because she always swims at top.

if you want to breed you probably should have learnt all this stuff before.

anyway, i know you want to save all the fry but it never happens even when using a breeding net if you arent there she will quite probably end up eating them if she is left in too long. also the stress can make them abort as said before. if fry were to be born they would have a better chance having somewhere to hide in the main tank.

most of the time the safe spot is on the ground, in a plant or somewhere else safe

it does look like shes pregnant but being that she is a balloon molly i wouldnt say she is that close. ive only had one balloon molly give birth and she was massive by the time she popped.
