I just recently bought a male and a female guppy along with a few other fish. I'm going to get more but I have very little money (-: Anyway, the female is completely clear; you can see her air bladder and everything. So, she does have the gravid spot, but I'm not convinced she's actually pregnant, because wouldn't I be able to see feces or even just some body part in the same spot? I can't decide if it's getting bigger or not. I know I should just wait and see but I'm curious! I want my guppies to populate my 29 gallon tank for me, so this would be a great start. Another part of my question is, how far along are they usually by the time you can see a clear gravid spot? (her's is definately big enough that in a non-clear guppy I'd say she's gravid) I know the total is about 28 days, but I'd like a gereral estimate if someone has a wild guess. (-: Thanks!

First off you should have 2-3 females per every maleso the male doesn't constantly harrass one of them. Second, just because a fish has a gravid spot doesn't mean that they're pregnant. If your guppy is larger than normal than it probably is pregnant. They ususally give birth when it looks like the fish is going to "pop". And if you want her to give birth sooner it is a good idea to raise the temperature slowly to about 78 F. (Sorry, don't know C) But don't worry, if she's with a male you'll have more babies than you can handle soon enough! :)

If the fish is pregnant, and that explains the enlarged gravid spot, it could be anytime that she gives birth. At this point, the birthing relies on how comfortable she is in your tank. Make sure your tank has lots of plants for her to hide in and that your temperature is warm.

What you have is a blonde females and it's common to see the bladder, as i have a few here which i can do the same in, but you cant see the babies, i got babies with out realising at first as i though the same.

If she has been with males she will be pregnant soon if not already

... I think I can see two eyes. o_O I can see two tiny darker spots. So now it looks like she is pregnant, but that she has only one fry... so now I don't know what to do. I have a community tank, including some somewhat boistrous mollies, and I'd really get a kick out of saving this one baby fry, the first in my tank. But I have no way of telling when she's going to give birth since I don't think she'll get very big. I can't set up another tank, no room. I don't want to put her in the breeding trap for long periods of time because I'm afraid she'll freak. Advice?

She'll have more than one fry! I see about 5 eyes in my swordtail and she has at least 20 fry! As for hiding spots you'll need lots and lots of plants! Java moss is a favorite on these boards! You can also lay out marbles in the tank so the fry can hide inbetween them. Try to have a lot though as it will give more cover.
