hi all

so recently i was given a a male and female pair of OB peacocks. they are the only fish in my tank and now it turns out that the female is carrying eggs. im sure she came to me like this as she always had a lump in her throat and has not eaten. I have looked around a fair bit but cant find any good info on how to care for her while pregnant or the fry when they are born can you help?

Many thanks

Jack

Jack,

Well it depends what you want to do.
You could just leave her to it, and once she has spat the young, leave them to take their chances.

Or, if you want to save as many of the young as possible, and you have the facilities to do so, you could catch the female and "strip" her. Basically this means you force her mouth open so the eggs fall out which you then take care of. I never did this with my fish as I never had spare fry tanks etc. There are videos on You Tube of how to do this.

Thanks

Hi there thanks for your info
i woke up this morning and she had given birth! so i ran out and got a hatchery and i managed to catch and save 6 there is one more hiding in the tank in a rock but i only found two dead. question is now how to feed them?

many thanks

Very finely crushed flake should be ok.
Feed small amounts numerous times a day. And make sure the tank they are in is kept clean.
