I just started tanking with some mollies and neon tetras. My question relates to one of my black mollies. She seems to be pregnant. We've had them a few days now and we noticed she has started to kind of sit in place and "shake" almost. Her vent is very noticeable (though it is on our other black molly as well) but she also has this stinger looking thing sticking out of it? She's been hiding a lot today and by the heater.

Looks weird. Stuck baby maybe? Best thing you can do for a stressed fish in any case is make sure you have 0 ammonia and nitrites. Yes I would say she’s got babies there from her size.

We've been making sure the water is perfect for them. 0 ammonia. 0 nitrates. Ph is about 7.3. Temp is 76. I've noticed our male is picking on her a bit too.

The fish has Camallanus thread worms. See section 3 of the following link to treat fish for intestinal worms.

She isn't having any white stringy poop, normal pinkish color just like our other fish.

Does the “stinger” move? I have actually seen babies sort of stuck like this for short times, like a couple hours, but it’s usually not as pointy as that appears in the pic.

Honestly it is so hard to tell

They don't always have stringy white poop but it's a symptom in lots of cases.

The red hair like thing sticking out the fish's butt is a threadworm and mollies, platies, swordtails and guppies regularly come into the shops with them. You need to treat all your fish at the same time and do it asap. The longer the worms remain in the fish, the more damage they do to the intestine.
