Hello everyone. I have 7 mollies in my tank, both males and females. One of my females dropped some fry about 10 days ago. Unfortunately, due to my inexperience (I have only kept my fish for 2 months) I did not catch them fast enough and none survived - in fact, I only saw one baby. Since she dropped my two males have been paying her a lot of attention, although she does not seem to be stressed by this. I have noticed she is getting very big again already, especially compared to her other friends. Her stomach is starting to look quite square again... Is it possible she will drop again soon? With the gestation period of a month surely this cannot be possible! However, it is clear to see that she is carrying again.

Help!

Hi FloatyLight (love saying that name)

As platys, mollies and guppys can store sperm for up to 6 months I imagine she got pregnant as soon as she dropped her fry. Congratulations :)

She will not be ready to drop yet but it is quite likely that she is pregnant again. Mollies actually tend to gestate a little longer than most livebearers (5-6 weeks).

Thanks guys! I guess I'm going to have to keep a close eye on her. I hope I don't miss this bunch of fry. How long can I keep her in a birth trap without stressing her? The longest she's been in one is about 12 hours and she seemed quite calm.

Awww Ally555, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope they do someday. Not that lucky tho, only one of mollies seems to be carrying, the others aren't.
