My friend has a 20 gallon tank with the following fish
5 young dalmation mollys
4 fry in a breeders net
4 corydoras
1 albino chinese alage eater

We think one of the mollys is pregnant. She keeps on going up and down the front of the tank with her bottom up. We are not sure if she is sick or is just pregnant. She has a big stomach, so we think she is the one that had the four babys. Is she just pregnant or is this something to worry about?

Also could the chinese alage eater eat the fry even if the fry is too big for the mollys to swallow? Also could the chinese alage eater become a problem in the future? I have read that they will take out the eyes of corys!

Thanks for the help! :)

My friend is not that good at fish keeping. Her mom always tells her what she does is wrong even when it is actually right. She has lost alot of fish because of this.

Next time I go over I will test the water with my test kits, since she does not have any.

Well she (the fish) kind of floats up to the top with her bottom in the air, then swims back down. Then she will just be swimming normally and start up again. It does not seem to bother her.

Do you know if the chinese alage eater will be a problem? :/

Oh and how would I move this to the livebearer section?

It doesnt seem like she is having troble swimming, she just will stop doing that and swim normally and then start again.

I will get the water tested as soon as i can and post it.

My friends mom bought her two common plecos for her 20 gal. tank. (and they died of course). But before they died I volunteered to take them to my tank, but her mom said they were fine (yeah right). Then when they died, her mom went and bought the chinese alage eater. I new when I first saw it that trouble would come. Katie ( my friend) said I could have the sucker fish ( thats what she calls it ) for my new big tank. So that solves that problem.

Ok, you have tryed some people just won't listen.
Get water tested helps alot.
Wouldn't have a chinese algae eater given, don't know why lfs sell them to beginners with small tanks.
Mollies really need brackish water but that out of the question with some of the fish she keeps.

She says she puts aquarium salt in the water. I dont know how much though. I will see if she could give me the corys too. I will mention the brakish problem and maybe she will listen. I was going to get more corys any way. It would also give her more room for the fry.

I will post stats tomorow, hopefully.

Good luck, and fingers crossed you make her listen abit more.

Unfortunatly I was unable to go and test the water, but I will call her today and try to sort out the brakish, corydora, and golden chinese alage eater problem. I will see how the molly is doing and I will tell you as soon as I can. :)

Wish me luck! :D

Okay. The molly had more babys. She was able to save some but not many. It seems that she is just pregnant. Her mom says it's fine to have the corys in the tank and that they need them for cleaning the gravel. But atleast I convinced her of the chinese alage eater. :)

Corys are lovely, good don't was a cae.
