okay, well i bought 3 mollies on sunday - and one was pregnant. The guy in my LFS said she was ready to drop, so I put her straight in the breeding trap which I bought as well. However - there have been no fry, although over on the livebearer forum they said she is very close!

Do you think I should take her out of the breeding trap? And just let nature takes it course? MY tank probably couldn't handle 20 + fry anyways, so if i realease her it will most likely be both less stressful on her and on all the other fish in the tank. There are places to hide in my tank, and lots of leaves - so some fry would survive. I just think this may be more humane, seeing as she has been stuck in the trap for 4 days now.

What do you think?

Definitely! Yes, I agree you should put her back in the main tank, especially if you don't intend to rear the whole batch of fry, it's just not necessary to put her in a breeding trap in this case.

You will find that when she drops her fry in the main tank, most of them will be eaten off and if you get lucky a couple may just survive to adults, which is ideal for you if you don't have room for lots more adult mollies.

oh gosh yes put her back in,4 days is far too long in one of those breeding traps :) she may be holding back due to stress

Right, then I shall take her out when I get home..

Hopefully that means I can get the Guppies on the weekend - I tested the tank today and there is no Nitrite, Ammonia and very little nitrate!

Hope she'll be okay and I haven't stressed her too much!

When you release her back into the main tank she may swim off to hide somewhere for a while. Might be a good idea to leave the tank light off for a few hours until she readjusts to being back in there again.

All the best - Athena

Okay will do - thanks very much!

Knew I could count on TFF!
