I've got a couple of (what must be) pregnant fish - 1 pregnant guppy and 1 pregnant platy.

I've read through the pinned topics on each of these and both fish are definitely pregnant going by their looks and comparing them to the pics on these topics.

I put the platy in the breeding trap last night but she spazzed out for a bit so after a couple of hours I let her out. Both fish are still extremely active so I'm just wondering when the best time to put them in the breeding trap is?

I thought for sure the platy was going to give birth last night but only because of her size and I saw the white spot near her business end, but she hasn't yet and as I said is still very active!

I'd love to get the fry so any help on determining when I should put them in the trap would be great?

Thanks

i never put my pregnant livebearers in my breeding trap because it stresses them out to much and can make them abort the babies, when i see the fry i catch them in my net and put them in the trap then. i change the water in the trap as much as possible so they don't get poisoned by the dirty water. i feed them crumbled flake food and start feeding them the morning after they were born as they are usually born on a night.

hope this helps.

Yeah thanks!

I had heard that breeding traps stress out the fish but there's no chance I can catch the babies because they just go straight to the bottom and into the planted area I have - its a fairly big tank so I can't easily get to them. Theres a few in there from a pregnant guppy I had the other week but I think they are just getting picked off by the other fish, hence wanting to catch these fry in a trap.
