Pregnant Guppy

Hi,
I recently bought some guppies, all pregnant, but one of them is getting quite big and she has a gravid spot and I was wondering if you guys could tell me when you think she will give birth? I have not had guppies for a few years and I need a bit of help

A good indication is when she starts becoming antisocial and almost squared off. I should know - 1 molly and 2 platys are up the duff as well Gonna have to rehome the little guys somehow!

Just a comment on the tank - The heater you have is a decent choice, it's an elite 50 watt isnt it? I have the 150 and cant fault it. Possibly why i am getting a 50 for my new tank that is being set up...

Have you got the filter in the hood of the tank by any chance - and what media (the stuff in the filter) are you using???

She doesn't look that far along to me. The gravid spot really isn't an indicator. As Blubble 37 said, when she becomes squared off, then start looking for fry. She'll really get boxy looking, and when she's really close you'll likely see the birthing tube ... a small white dot by her anus. Do you plan to set up a fry tank or just leave them to their own devices?

Yes I was planning on saving the fry, and I have a breeders net and everything, and when they get bigger I will just put them with the adults, But I think I have a few weeks yet?

She clearly did not like the camera, lol.

She's not very far along... I'd say give it 2-3 more weeks, maybe then she'll look a little more boxy.

Hi guys,
I cleaned out the guppy tank today and to my suprise, I found 5 fry!!! I just went to check for more and found 3 more but one was dead, it was stillborn any ideas why? I have had this before where a few are stillborn, I think its just one of those things... anyways can you give me some tips on raising the 7 remaining fry? I don't know which fish is actually having the fry, I cant seem to tell but I am just catching them when I see them. They are quite happily swimming around with the adults, and the adults don't seem to be bothering them, but i put them in the net breeder to be safe I fed them this morning Why arent the adults bothering them??

Congrats with your guppy fry! Some tips on them: feed them frequently, about 3-8 times a day, but not too much. You can feed them finely powdered up flakes, but if you can some frozen or live BBS (baby brine shrimp) would be great, but not too often. The adults probably aren't bothering them because they are full (good job!). I rarely see fry anymore, so I try to feed the adults more. Unless you want to know and breed guppies for color, quality, or showing, I don't exactly see the point in trying to figure out which guppy it was. And its hard.

The photos are actually pretty good! Congratulations on the newborns!

Now, about that plant in the photos, it is NOT aquatic and you should take it out, plant it in a pot and set it on the windowsill, otherwise it will start to rot in your water. These are sold as aquatic in many places, but they aren't!
