Hi, I bought 2 females and a male about 3 weeks from my lfs and now I believe that the two females are pregnant. Moreso in one then the other, Her gravid spot is quite dark and large and she is a lot fatter than she was when I bought her. How far on do you think she might be? Should I put her in a breeding trap as I don't have a spare tank to put her in. Any advice is appreciated. Also would you like me to post some pictures?

Thanks

EDIT:heres a pic of one of them

firstly gotta say, what a cool way of taking a pic, never though of that myself :good:

i would just add loads of plants to the tank plastic ones will be fine, so the fry have places to hide and will be ok, esp had some floating plants as guppy fry tend to surface after about 10 mins from being born, not a good idea to put into a trap without knowing for sure how far gone she is, this comes with experience or caculated selective breeding programmes, the pic even though brilliant isnt as clear to see b/c she needs to be photographed for a side view for us to answer the time period a little bit better for you. hope you can sort this, yipppppeeeee more fry on the way

i was expecting someone to give off to me about the way i had taken the picture, it was the only way i could think of taking the picture, i'll try to get a better one

I read about that in a book, it said before you buy a fish ask the employee if he can trap it against the glass so you can check the fish over properly!

TBH what harm do it do the fish, none really. as orangeshark says some shops do allow you to see the fish this way.

much better :good: she could give birth from 4 days onwards at a quess, she starting to box off, which is the area of the belly that goes a box shape but its not as boxed as what it could be, saying that some gups dont box so much if they are younger fish and its their first drop, if thats the case then it could be any time now. i know that sounds a bit contradictory but if you know that shes a fully grown female then she should box a bit more, only you know how old your fish is. hope this total mess of an answer explains something

well i've only had her about 3 weeks, as far as i know she's a fully grown female as the guy in the fish shop said they were ready to breed (very reputable fish shop) and it would be her first drop so hopefully it will be soon then :D
thanks i can't wait now
