2 of my females are pregnant and the bigger one is really big, i reckon she would drop any time now so i've put her into a breeding box. i missed my last guppy start giving birth but caught the last 2 fry coming out so i thought i knew as much as i needed to.
anyway now my big female is in the breeder box she has a thing coming in and out of her, its about 2/3 mm long, redish and looks pointed, it isnt a poo and isnt a fry, i know that much. i've been watching for about 2 hours now and it just keeps going in and out (imagine an aliens tentacle coming out a body in a film eeeeuuch). its freaking me out, at first i thought this was her preparing for birth, then i think internal parasites as ive never seen them either, ive read on your forum that if a fish is distressed it can abort the fry and i thought it might be this.whats happening?help me!!! :/ :(

ok ive read the link you sent me Wilder, sounds like thats what it is so will that mean the rest of my tank is infected? what kind of treatment will i have to get? im in the uk by the way and thats why im asking because i read all the american products but dont know the uk version...
ive had this lady the longest so she must have been infected by newer fish ive bought, the last being 2 weeks ago, one of the new mummys had a batch of fry but she also had this thin red thing coming out, she had 8 babies which i put in a net breeder but then she died the next day, which i put down to stress... will the fry be infected from her? they are about 2 weeks old now and seem to be thriving. ive been doing guppies since january and this is my first batch of fry, i was so pleased when they were born and its been a joy to watch them growing a wee bit every day so im a bit miffed to think i may lose them. any help or advice would be gratefully accepted. just goes to show i thought i knew it all but it seems i dont have a clue ha ha  :)

ok Wilder, now three days later ive been letting the lady out of the breeder box every day for a wee while and putting her back in at night but now her belly is so massive and i seen the thing again yesterday, its bigger!!! im a big softie and have had her for ages and i dont want to euthenise her but now it looks like her scales are protuding, shes not as active as she was 3 days ago when i last posted and treatments from the pet shop obviously arent helping her. i know there is a risk of contaminating the rest of the tank and as ive got plecos and clown loaches i know i will have to euthenise her, clown loaches are greedy and eat any fish that dies in the tank, thats why i put her in the breeder box, as if she died they cant eat her and the thing inside her... ok im going to do it, please tell me im doing the right thing.... please.

Sadly yes she come down with dropsy once scales stick out organ failure, get a jug of cold water add some ice cubes as it has to be really cold to work properly, add the fish it dosn't take long, but leave her in a while just to make sure she passed on.
Get that worming med in the tank fast as internal parasites are nasty they do alot of damage to the inside of the fish.

thank you for your help Wilder, i did it earlier on today and am keeping a close eye on my other fish.
