Hi All,

Quick question i have a female guppy who looks very pregnant, My question is the male guppy keeps chasing her around the tank and looks like he's attacking her by her anal fin, Is this because she's pregnant or is he getting the fry as they are born??

What shall i do and do you recommend putting her in a breeding tank?

Thanks in advance for your help.

He may be trying to stress her into having her fry so he can eat them, or he may just be a little furstrated because she's pregnant and he can't breed with her. Pregnant fish also secrete hormones, so he may be attracted to that.

By breeding tank, I assume you mean an actual tank, not just a net or a trap? If so, yes, certainly, put her in. If it's a net or trap...You can, since you said she looks very pregnant. However if she doesn't have her fry in 3 days, take her out and give her at least 12 hours to "un-stress" from being in the net. :)

Last night he was trying to breed so imagine it's the hormone she's giving off but tonight she seems quite bothered about it.

I did mean trap not the net i brought a 3 in1 floating breeding trap, but don't know if will use it at the moment see how she goes over next few days.

At least she chasing him aswell tonight!!

Thanks for the advice

I wouldn't put her in then...I personally would never use a trap, even if it's just for when they are about to give birth, because there isn't much room to move around and it stresses them out a lot. I think a Breeder net would be much better, and you could put her in there if she looks too bothered, so perhaps next time you go to the fish store you could look for one of those? They are also good for raising fry. :)

Ok cool i will keep an eye out.

thanks for your help.
