She does looks quite big, but you have no chance of catching any of the fry. The angle fish and gourami will make sure of that. Althought the tank is heavily planted so SOME might survie if there quick enough. If i was you i would place mother in the breeding net, let her give birth and then remove her.

Good Luck, DON'T STRESS HER OUT

When do you think she will pop?

i put her in the net.... :)

some people may think i'm crazy or disaggree. but the german lady at our nearest fish store, told me to add some table salt in the breeder net with the pregnant mama. and both times ive done this, she popped within 24 hours. and from what i could tell, didn't hurt any of them. i always put about a table spoon of salt in there. tho it wasnt a net, but one of the plastic breeder things. so the salt i think stayed in more than what it might with the net. good luck!

I wanted to ETA: it takes awhile for your fry to get big enough to where they wont get eaten. Do have another tank to move them to once she has them? Keeping them in the net wont be enough room for them. Also can you image how dirty it will get and very fast. lol

yup! my parents are getting me a new one on saturday! so ill set it up as soon as i get it. Are you serious about salt! how much do you think i should put in the net? also when you put your salt in, were they the same size as mine? is she big enough to put salt in the net?????

thats great about the new tank. and yes im serious about the salt. id say a small tablespoon full, thats what i used. and yes i really think she is big enough. my one guppy rose (RIP) she stayed huge for days and just wouldn't pop. so i added table salt, that was right before i went to bed about 10pm. the next morning about 7:30am, i got to watch the show of baby fry coming out! :)

so just table salt?the ones you get in shops? should i add some now?

i get my table salt at the grocery store. sure i don't see why not. she looks like she wants to pop so badly. i've had 3 kids, being pregnant isnt fun. give her some relief. lol

HOLD ON A SECOND. Are there any fish in there, that won't responed to salt to well

Just leave her in the net, it will happen when it happens. The way i look at it is, they don't have a big hand coming down to help them in the wild, do they. Just leave her in the net for 24 hours, she may be fat, but not ready to give birth yet.

i agree, i waznt going to put salt in, because isnt that like forcing her to give birth? when shes ready shell do it?

How is she doing, do you have anymore pictures. Try turning the light off for a few hours

Wait a second. You can't set up another tank, and then just throw the fry in. You'll need to get it cycled. Do you have a filter for that tank? If so, start running it alongside the one in this tank. That will get some beneficial bacteria on the filter.

I would personally say she has about a week or so to go. Her gravid spot isn't THAT dark, and she isn't hugely fat. I wouldn't keep her in the breeder net for all that time. The most I'd recommend you keep her there is three days, after that, let her out for at least 24 hours. Try not to put her in the breeder net more then twice. You could also just let her give birth in the tank, and scoop the fry out. You have lots of plants, they should be able to hide. It'd be better for the mother too. Then once you have your small tank set-up and cycled, you can move her in there for the next batch and keep the fry in there, and it will be better all around.

Also, for salt, aquarium salt is best. Table salt has additives that aren't good in bigger amounts. Also, as Chill said, not all fish can handle salt for long periods of time. Just be patient, and let her give birth in her own time.

Try to keep the stress off of her. What other fish do you have, size tank, and water stats?
