I bought my female guppy that was lightly pregnat and I put her in a 5 gallon tank with 1 other feamle and 2 males. She was extremlly active and she was eating and very heathly. I went out of town overnight and I came back and she was at the bottom not moving now she is secluding herself. And she has bleeding right under her belly. Like a spot of blood. I'm not sure if she ripped her fin on the plastic plant or a male bit her. But i'm worried. WHat should I do? Her gravid spot is small and not dark so she can't be having fry? right? I'm new to this these are my first guppies! I also jsut bought 2 new Fancy male guppies that I put in a separate bowl and plan to keep them in it for a week to make sure there healthy before putting them in my 5 gallon. Any advice? I cannot buy anymore guppies though? What is this meaning???

Can you take a pic of this m8?

Sounds to me like if its a red like ball type of thing near her anal fin, it could have a anal infection (i dont know the proper name for this)

Mine got this before and died, but when another one got it, i used some treatment and it cleared it up, been so long since i come across this i cant remember what it is.

What are your water parameters first? Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH.

Guppies don’t bleed when they have their fry. Keep a close eye the tank to see if she is having her babies. They seclude themselves when they are haying the fry.

You should have a ratio of one female to three males so the males don’t pick on the females.

Are you positive she is bleeding or is it just a spot of red? Is there actual blood? Guppies are prone to sepsis and if it is a red streak that may be what it is. However, do not medicate until we figure this out as it’s just a guess.

For the time being you can do a water change and see if that helps.

Thank you both for your help -I woke up and she was dead. I agree about the ratio of females to males but my males are not acting agressive to my female. I believe my guppy (the dead one) had Pine Cone or Dropsey. The red was actually under her skin and her eyes were bulging. Thank you for your advice

Bleeding under the skin is HEMORRHAGIC SEPTICEMIA.
I would do some daily water changes on the tank as the bacteria from the fish can enter the tank.

Taken from the link.http://www.goldfishinfo.com/ailment1.htm

Septicemia- A condition where bacteria gains entry into the fish's body through wounds or the stomach. The bacteria can cause failure of the internal organs, damage to body tissue, blood vessels, and result in recognizable symptoms. This often results in internal bleeding, due to the fluids filling the fish's abdomen. Dropsy may occur as a result. The problem with this type of situation is that the bacteria is present inside the fish and safe from the antibiotics you would place in the water. It could be the result of another infection or caused from dirty water. Symptoms: Clamped fins, bulging eyes, red bellies, eroding, reddened fins, lack of appetite, and fish showing signs of being sluggish or exhibiting sluggish behavior. Treatment: It is best to feed the fish antibiotics rather than using the kinds you place directly into the water. Placing the ill fish in a hospital tank is advised while administering treatment. Check your local petstore for some good medicated food or check for antibiotics if necessary. Septicemia is fatal if not treated immediately! top
