Pregnant Guppy Died

Yesterday I noticed that one side of one of my pregnant guppies looked scared and had red lines on it (like blood vessels).

This afternoon my girlfriend noticed she was lying on her side on the bottom or she was up near filter and not moving around. She was also breathing quite fast.

Unfortunately she died just before I got home. Now my worried is that she had something contagious. We only had her a week, our other 3 guppies are fine with no markings on them and the other pregnant female looks fine.

It looks like the scales are missing.

How long has your tank been set up, Ash? Is it cycled? Can you get the water tested?

Only had the tank a week so not cycled. Tomorrow im going to take a water sample to my pet store, buy a water testing kit and purchase some live plants to help with the nitrogen until its cycled.

The other 3 guppies seem fine except now I have 2 males and 1 female and since she's pregnant I'm wondering if a breeding pen might be best to keep the males away.

It would have been better to have it cycled before adding fish but not much you can do now other than get it cycled as quickly as possible.
If you can, get a squeeze of someone's filter, who already has a tank up and running. That'll kick start the cycle in your tank.
If your shop is a local independent one rather than a chain, they might help you with a bag of mulm/filter gunk
 
What size is the tank and have you done any water changes in the week it has been up and running ?
As it's not cycled there may be a build up of Ammonia or Nitrites, the test at the store will tell you that (ask them for specific values not just whether the water is good or not)
 
What store did you get them from ?
It could be she was not well anyway
 
I wouldn't bother with a breeding net/pen they tend to stress the females as they are cramped (try locking a pregnant girlfriend in the broom cupboard for a weekend and see how she takes it
