Hi,
I was just wondering: How do you know when your guppies will have their fry? I have six females, and only one male left(because the other two died!). Most of them have the dark gravid spot, but one or two of them have a really black spot. How do I know when they will have the babies? I already have a litter of ten and am new to having fish. Can anyone help? Thanks.
-_- :dunno:

An old indication that she (female Guppy) was about to give birth was the shape of her abdomen, whilst still remaing very bloated with fry she would sorta square off in shape from behind the gills to behind the gravid area.

well i have got 30 guppies fry and 3 adults 2 male 1 female and the way i knew that she was ready was when she was looking like she was going to pop her gravid spot was dark brown and she was hiding on her own behind things close to the heater or pump and i just got my breeder box out put her hit and the next morning there was 35 but 5 of them were already dead :rip: ????

they hold there babies for 4-7 weeks and i agree with bigc at the bottom of there bellies it goes square.and sometimes they have like a round thing sticking out of where there gravid spot was

Thanks for all of your comments. I just don't know when they got pregnant! Two of the guppies were pretty big when I got them recently. Their bellies do look squared off, but I just can't tell. I guess I will have to just wait and see! I don't like the thought of the babies being eaten, but natural selection may be the best way to go. I won't have room for all the babies!

have you got a livebearer breeding box thas what i always use its so simple and effective, you should get one they are quite cheap.

I already have a breeding trap...it's currently storing 10 fry almost a week old. I don't have a clue which guppy gave birth to them! But now, I just don't know when these other guppies are going to have their babies! They look like their ready to go any minute, but I don't want to put them in the trap yet because I heard it stresses them out! I heard it was best to let them birth into the tank and then try to save as many fry as possible. I'll guess I'll have to wait and see. The last ones took me by surprise because they didn't even look quite as ready to give birth as these ones are. :/
