Yes, she's pregnant; and very close to giving birth; expect fry in the next 24 hours, I'd guess.

All colours of platies will breed together but you won't get purple ones; it doesn't work like that (just like hair colour in people; if a red head marries a blonde, they don't have babies with pink hair!). You might get red, or blue, or even some other colour that's being 'hidden' in the genes.

Yes, she is pregnant. When I had my guppy and platy fry some looked like their daddy, some like their mommy and others a mixed breed. So some may come out purple and others could be blue and red together , or even purple and red or purple and blue. I can't really tell you exactly because sometimes there is a large variety and sometimes there isnt.

thanks ,she's in a breeder box now that photo was actullay took last night so she must be ready soon i was and am still really worried that she gave birth some time today and i've lost the fry but i think she still looks fat but not as fat as in the picture, could she have had a few and then will have a few more later or are they all in one, thanks again

Alex

No, once they stop, that's it. If she isn't as fat, then she must have dropped them unless she ate too much just before the picture was taken
The little babies are so tiny and hide so well, that you won't see them at all unless you stay near the tank for hours with a magnifying glass and look in the gravel, under rocks and plants for movement. If you've got enough hiding places, some of the babies survive.

yeah she still seems quite fat just less than before but i suppose she could still be pregnant,if she's dropped them hopefully some will survive thanks

She doesn't look pregnant now. The fry are around 3-5mm long and colourless.

thanks she must of dropped in the time beetween i posted this and got her in the tank she still looks quite fat though should i wait for a bit or put her straight back in the main tank ? thanks

Alex

They will never come out purple. Color genes do not mix like paint. See fluttermoths post.

Do not worry she will get pregnant again but as soon as she starts getting FATTER then put her in the breeding tank so you don't miss out.

How big is the breeding tank? If its one of those little breeder traps, you are better of providing lots of hiding spots and leaving her in the main tank. The small breeder trap can stress her a lot. If you have a separate tank altogether, kudos to you :)

I do have to agree with Dieses Madchen a small one will freak it out. It is better to have another tank with LOTS of hiding spots as if you are not there when she is giving birth to the fry then Mama will eat them!
