Hi, one of my guppies was pregnant. I looked at the 'how to tell if its preganant' and 'how to tell when it will drop' threads abd thought it would be anytime soon judging by the size of her

So i pit her into a hospital / fry tank on her own

She seemed fine but a few hours later she was drifting along the bottom and then she was no more :(

I tried to see if there were any fry I could save but the only fry looked well underformed so I dont even know why she was so big.

I have anotherguppy that is starting to look the same, and starting the same behaviour, (hiding up over the top of one ofthe filters)

Is it worthwhile moving her across to the oher tank, could it be some kind of disease or parasite?

Would it be worthwhile treating the main tank for anything as a precaution?

I'm guttted that she didnt make it, i was lookign forward to trying to raise my first fry. adn dont want it to happen to the other one.

Anyadvice wiil be gladly received

To be honest it look's like droppsey, which an imballance in the the water retension of the fish, this can be caused by many factors and treating is very difficualt.

Large water changes 2-3 times a week for the next week and melifix i would treat with.

if u look at the seconed pic u can see what looks like pinecoing of the scales which is a classic sign of this problem

She did have opened out scales.

I think I will be quarantining the remaining guppies, male and female. I will treat with melafix and do 50% water changes on both tanks a couple of times this week.

The tank was cycled and all water stats are fine ammonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, pH7.6 26ºC

I take it i need to treat with melafix in both tanks? ANd it wont have any adverse effect on the filters (being anti bac?)

Any other advice, is it likely to affect my other fish?

Strange if u have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates u should some have nitrites.

As far as I'm aware melifix dose no harm to the filter as it's a tea-tree oil based product.
products like myxazin are great too, but is a malicate based which dose affect the bacteria.

well the other guppy looke like she was ready to pop today, so i moved her over to the smaller tank.

She released 8 fry but then she too died.

Hpefully some of the fry will survive???
