Well, I have a lovely little yellow cobra femme who I got with her sisters at my LFS. They were all very very much preggy when I got them and I already have about 20 new fry swimming about the fry tank. (Naturally one of them waited until I left to drop fry, the little stinker) However, when I was poking about the substrate while hunting for fry I looked at another very pregnant female and noticed her scales sticking out a bit! She is pooping normally, it is not constipation.

Is it dropsy or something else?

Here are my tank stats:

Species only tank - 6 Females, 2 males
30 gallon
moderately planted

I do not test my PH, but the takn has been up and running for at least 7 months now and I have not had to test on any of my tanks. I do weekly 10% water changes/vacumes on all of my tanks.

She had been gently relocated into a spare 5 gallon, just in case it is dropsy. If it is dropsy, please tell me what to do to treat as I have never had to deal with this disease (And hopefully it's not) As I said, she is extremely pregnant and is expected to give birth any day now, so I want to be extremely careful with her. Is it a possibility her scales are just sticking out a bit b/c she's so fat?

Yes, very pregnant females will sometimes get what looks like dropsy. And it could be dropsy, but usually it will go away after they give birth. To be on the safe side, keep the water nice and clean, and perhaps add a little salt....just a little, probably not full dose. :)

I just now did that, many thanks. Now I need to go and get more salt b/c I put the itty bit I had left in there. *snicker* Time to go to lfs again. Buhahaha, more fishies for me. (Maybe) :) Thank you so much for your help. I promise I will keep you posted on whats going on.

Is it possible to go to a fish store and not get new fish? If it is, please inform me how! :p

And you're welcome. I hope she has her fry soon, as it can't be too comfortable to be so fat your scales stick out! Keep the enviroment as stress free as possible, and maybe alternate in some Live or Frozen foods if you don't already. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Everytime I go in I come out with -another betta, another guppy, that little frog with the gimp leg, the snail, some pretty new plants, etc etc etc.... I drive my hubbie nutters. =3

we are now (after I ushered him into the shower) on our wayt out

....That one more Betta that looks so sad, that one more purple Guppy, that one more female Betta that's suffering from ich....I know the feeling. :p

Anyway, keep up updated! And send her my get well thoughts! :D

I will do. She says "Thank you for your help, I promise to try and get better quickly."

Well....I got back home...no betta with ich or pretty little boy (I'm not allowed to look at bettas anymore, so says the hubbie) no purple guppie either....I got a black one! :p She's got the biggest tail I have ever seen on a guppy, male or female, but she does have a bit if ich. No wories on that account though, I'm used to treating ich because I buy fish with it alot. It's sad how many gorgeous fish never get a chance because people don't want to pour a bit of the good ol' 'Blue Stuff' into the tank. *sigh* She's pretty young, but her tail is bigger than her body. She's so cute! I feel a bit bad for her though, that tail but be a pain to drag about.
